Abstract
ReplyDeleteThe following presentation reflects the compilation of prior group assignments completed by EDAC 634 Group Two. The group members selected a power point format to highlight key features of their previous projects. Through the presentation, the knowledge learned as well as the insights gained throughout the process will be demonstrated. The power point presentation reflects the contributions of each group member and contains aspects of the Literature Reviews, Program Investigations, the Program Design, and the Program Evaluations. The Introduction slides were submitted by Angela Britton. The Goals and Objectives slides were submitted by Debi DeJesus. The Cover Slide and Program Design slides were submitted by Kathy Ritter. The Insights Gained slides were submitted by Rayla Dawalt and Javita Johnson. Also, Javita Johnson reviewed the references page to ensure proper formatting. In addition, Debi DeJesus and Kathy Ritter collaborated on revising and editing, as well as adding the graphics, animations and transitions, and writing the Abstract.
The main ideas shared in this project support the goals of exploring the Experiential Learning theory and applying the theory to develop a program that could be incorporated into one of the programs Group Two investigated. Initially, a review of the literature was conducted to compilate relevant information as cited by scholars of the field of experiential learning. Throughout this research, information selected was written into a unified format as representative of the theory. Next, two available programs based on experiential theory were investigated and the most relevant and important aspects were cited as specific components to include in a group designed program for adults. Following the investigation of programs, a program in experiential learning effective for adult learners was designed. After the program was developed, two educators were chosen to evaluate the program and to provide constructive feedback accordingly. This feedback was then added to the overall program design as revisions in order to make the program more effective. The goals of the Challenge Education program were to assist students’ development of skills necessary for building effective relationships with others, and ability to establish a group network and support system with classmates.
The overall lessons gained from the group project assignments were the importance of frequent communication and collaboration, allocating tasks based on members’ abilities, focusing on a specific audience to ensure the experiential learning activities are developmentally appropriate and meaningful, gathering research data from a variety of sources, and obtaining feedback from experienced adult educators. If given the opportunity to redo the project, the size of the group would be reduced. Suggestions for practitioners and researchers are to include examples of activities with descriptors of Experiential Learning in their data, and provide more specific guidelines regarding the suggested age or developmental ranges for the activities, materials, and data.
I loved the way your group displayed all of your work throughout the semester and it looks great. I would have to agree with Kate that we also had similar views and ways of displaying and explaining the group work from the semester. Great job and I can tell your group really worked hard this semester. Whitney
DeleteGreat job on your demonstration! It was very informative. It sounds like you all learned a lot from this entire process of developing a program that specifically applies experiential learning. Our group had a lot of similar insights especially when it comes to group work. This course was very helpful in teaching you how to work together, and it looks like you guys felt the same way. Definitely skills that we can use and take with us in our next projects in life!
ReplyDeleteGroup 2,
ReplyDeleteWELL DONE! You thoroughly explained the theory in your presentation and also the steps you took as a group. I really enjoyed reading your insights slides especially! The quotes you included really stuck me and made me reflect what we have done in this class.
Great Job!

Angela, Rayla, Deborah, Javita, Katherine,
ReplyDeleteYour summary (Abstract) of the process of how you did your group project is very clear and informative! You can copy this under the title of Project Demonstration so that your readers will know the main components of your project before they listen to your introduction. Delete the Abstract in Comment.
Your PowerPoint comprehensively described the main components of your project and the main ideas in each component, which is neat, clear and well-structured! I also like that you tied your project to the model of experiential learning and reminded your readers about how you structured your project. Excellent team work!

In your blog (at the top of your assignment), please indicate your roles in your group.
ReplyDeleteI really like the idea of your program and the implementation of team building exercises. It reminds me of the Crucible, which is a team building exercise that occurs in the final days of Marine Corps Recruit Training (Boot Camp). Of course, not quite the same as I don’t think you plan the program to last 54 hours, have participants march over 50 miles and limit their food and sleep in the process. Still, the idea of a team building and team problem solving is there. One thing that the Marines do is assign a different leader for each obstacle which allows everyone to be in a leadership role and also in a support role. The pictures are a good way to supplement the explanation of the program. The program demonstration had really good tie-ins and really helped the connection of what you learned in the class and how you connected it to the program .
